Predict, Detect, and Recover from System Faults
Watchdog Timer Modules use patented digital or analog timing technology to monitor control system integrity by monitoring the control system’s activity by detecting on/off transitions of a control line. During normal operation, the watchdog’s internal timer is continually reset by control line activity and its output relay remains energized. When control is lost (control line stops toggling), the timer times-out and de-energizes the output relay, indicating “Loss of Control”. If power is lost, the output also de-energizes (a "fail-SAFE" result.)
Brentek offers multiple Watchdog Timer packaging options, providing direct plug-in compatibility with industry standard I/O racks (G4, Classic, SM, and M types) as well as 8-Pin Octal relay socket compatible versions. Fixed timeouts are available from 31 milliseconds to 24 hours. A host of triggering options provides the versatility required to monitor complex systems with reliable and predictable fault detection. Dry Contact outputs can be configured for fail-OPEN, fail-CLOSED through a combination of available FORM A, B, and C relays with current handling up to 8 Amps. Custom watchdog timers are also available.
Industrial Supervisory Modules combine Power Supply Voltage Monitoring with sophisticated Watchdog Timer functionality in an easy-to-integrate octal module. Monitoring the power supply voltage can help detect problems before they turn into a system fault.
